Going on a Goose Ride :)

Last Tuesday, my friend, Jeff, invited me along for a ride on a 1947 Grumman Goose amphibious plane.  He had an open seat and offered it to me.  They are phasing the Goose out in August, so I couldn't pass up such a unique experience!  It was pretty awesome - complete with a water take-off and water landing!  :)

I had some videos, but our internet won't allow me to upload them - to slow.  But here are some pictures from our trip!!!  Enjoy!

Our captain, Burk  - oh, and yes, I AM sitting in the cockpit RIGHT next to him!  :)

Birthday Week! :) woot woot!

Last Wednesday, my students had their "end of the year" Band Concert.  It was awesome!!  I'm going to try to add a video so you can hear them.  It is pretty impressive!  They have had 12 weeks of Band this year and 12 weeks last year.  Ms. Duhan is an amazing Band teacher - she will be greatly missed next year!
This cat had been hanging around outside our classroom window all morning.  Pretty much all of our schedule was being disrupted, so I decided that this cat needed a name.  I took nominations from all students, then voted for the winning name.  There were some great name ideas, such as Rocky, Sacajawea, Boris, and Lil' Joe among several others.  Believe it or not, the winning name was "Cat".  :)

Then one of my girls brought this in for me...

Just because :)

We (my class) were invited to watch the Cardboard Boat Regatta.  One of the High School science classes built boats and raced to see which one could last the longest.  They are some pretty impressive boats!  :)

And they go down with their ship (note the salutes on the way down...)

Thursday was my birthday!  :)  Here is all my loot from my students and Julie!  They did some real good work!  :)

Dad and Mom sent flowers and a yummy cake!  :)  I've never had flowers delivered!  It made my day!   THANK YOU!!!

These are from my roommate and other friends.  They are good people!  :)

In Social Studies, we are studying Ancient Egypt.  My kiddos had to make paper masks - either Religious Masks or Death Masks.  Here are a couple of examples:

Thank you all for the birthday wishes!  I had a wonderful day/week!!  I love you all very much and am anxiously waiting for my summer trip home!!  Only 15 days until I am IN Oregon!

Teacher Appreciation Week! I'm Famous!! woot woot! :)

Last week was Teacher Appreciation Week!  My old roommate, Alex, is a reporter at KUCB (the local radio station).  She came in to our classroom one day last week to interview my students and myself about what makes a good teacher.  Here is the link below.  There is a picture of me and then a "play" triangle above it.  Click it and you can hear Alex's story.  :)

Happy Monday!!

Life lately...

We have still been having rotten weather this last week.  It's the middle of May and it's still snowing!  Sheesh!  I'm ready to have some sunshine in my life!

Even though we are still having snow, it's not snowing as much.  And the snow banks are starting to melt away.  I can actually see out my classroom windows now.  :)  And I found some springy flowers which promises that it is getting closer to summer!!  YAY!

During the crumby, cold weather, Erin and I have been puzzling it up - we are now working on an "impossible" one - HA!  We're almost done!  :)  Impossible Shimpossible!

Last Wednesday was the Awards Assembly recognizing the academic and athletic accomplishments of the students.  There were so many lovely flowers to decorate the tables.  We helped clean up at the end and were able to bring some home!  Beautiful!

Miss Leu (my Mentor Teacher) bought some sunflowers to decorate her room and she shared a couple with us.  They are such happy flowers!  :)

On Saturday, I was asked to chaperone Prom.  It was a pretty fun night.

Throughout the dance, they had difference games going.  One of the games is called "Ninja".  I've never played it or understood it before, but we were cracking up - the kids get so into it and they are hilarious.  Basically, they strike a ninja pose and then the other person tries to hit their hand.  So much funnier than it sounds - and then imagine it in tuxedos and prom dresses!  So funny!  :)

Dance Off :)
Today I woke up to SUNSHINE!  We went to the beach to look for beach glass and the whales are back!  Pretty cool!
